While there are several Content Filtering products available today designed for use on home computers, these applications typically do not work well. It is difficult to impossible for internet abuse management software to protect the machine on which it resides in “real-time”. When these programs try to catch content as it hits the local web browser, the results tend to be unpredictable at best.

Protection has to occur at the perimeter (or front door). This means the objectionable content must be stopped before it ever hits the desktop machine. There are only two places where this can occur, the residential gateway/router or a remote filtering server.
